Fractional Creative & Motion Direction

One director.
Every discipline.
Zero headcount.

Twenty years creating and directing in the creative industry for world-leading brands like IBM, NetApp, Cloudera, PayPal and Bandwidth — now open to help teams like yours.

It was the first newly-branded animated video the organization had done — the Verizon Business brand team reviewed it and called it a true best in class example.

The work isn’t the problem. The absence of direction is.

The issue is that nobody senior is holding the line on it. Hiring a full-time creative director fixes that — in six months, for a six-figure salary, after a search that may not land. You need the judgment now. You may not need it forty hours a week.

Here’s what that gap looks like day to day:

  • Nobody senior to help nail down the feedback
  • Campaigns drift off-brand between channels
  • Talented designers with nobody setting the bar
  • Agencies deliver output, not the desired outcome
  • Approval sits with someone too busy to judge it properly
Engagements

Two ways to work together.

Both run on the same shape — a three-month minimum. Creative leadership can’t prove itself in four weeks, and neither of us benefits from you judging me on the onboarding period.

01 · Creative & Art Direction

Direction and execution that survives the stakeholder room.

For teams making a lot and directing it thinly — campaigns drifting between channels, designers working under-directed, agencies delivering what you asked for rather than what you needed.

  • Concept and campaign direction
  • Brand systems and visual standards
  • Creative review on work in flight
  • Team mentorship and craft development
  • Vendor and agency direction
  • Input on creative hiring

Twenty years of this at IBM, Cloudera, PayPal and Spectrum Enterprise.

02 · Motion Design & Direction

Brand in motion that compounds.
Every channel. Every time.

For teams whose motion is bespoke every time — one launch video turning into fourteen deliverables, no system holding it together, and everything queueing behind whoever owns After Effects.

  • Motion systems, toolkits and templates
  • Brand motion guidelines
  • Create or direct explainers, brand films and launches
  • Event and experiential content
  • 3D, VFX and post oversight
  • Handover built for whoever comes next

9× Telly-winning motion work for Bandwidth, Verizon Business and NetApp.

Proof

Twenty years. Mostly in rooms like yours.

Most of my career has been enterprise technology — complicated products with about nine seconds to explain themselves.

Range. I came up through the pipeline — illustration, design, 3D, motion, VFX, compositing, edit, post, web. I’ve done every job I’d be directing. It means I direct in specifics rather than adjectives, and I know when a schedule is honest.

She and her team developed a video for me at Ogilvy for Verizon, right after they went through a huge rebrand. It was the first newly branded animated video the organization has done — and their brand team called it a true best in class example.

Twenty years of award-winning creation
and direction, pointed at your roadmap.

Book a 30-minute call

How it works

Streamlined process.

  1. A 30-minute call

What’s breaking, who’s on the team, what’s on the roadmap. If a retainer isn’t the right answer I’ll say so — sometimes it’s one project, or a hire.

  2. A written scope

Tier, cadence, what’s in and what isn’t, start date. One page.

  3. Exploration with your team

I look at the work, meet the team, read the brand — before anything changes.

  4. We work

Committed, calendared time. Not squeezed between other clients.

  5. Monthly report and status

Where the work stands, what moved, what’s next. You always see the value the engagement is returning.

The studio

I also run award-winning Banona Studio.

A design and motion studio with a full production team. That means when the direction needs making, there’s a team who can make it.

It also means you should know how the two relate. The retainer and any production work are separate engagements — separately contracted, separately priced. You’re never obliged to use Banona. Plenty of clients keep their own team or their existing vendors, and I direct whoever’s doing the work.

The studio is an option. When the goal is bigger, I bring in my high-caliber team to execute it.

See the studio

The work is already happening. Let’s make it great!

Thirty minutes. A real conversation.
